Job Description
The Risk Manager is responsible for risk management, corporate compliance and legal counsel for Ranken Jordan. The Risk Manager works cooperatively with the Administrator of Quality and Patient Safety, and the Director of Health Information/Chief Privacy Officer.

Duties & Responibilities
Risk Management
- Develop and maintain incident and accident reports, claims, related investigations and procedures for the hospital aimed at reductions in loss frequency and loss severity.
- Collect, analyze, and evaluate relevant loss and exposure data.
- Plan, review and monitor adequacy of policies, procedures and work-practices regarding risk reduction, mitigation and control.
- Plan and/or recommend course of actions that result in measurable risk reduction to the hospital, staff, customers, vendors, contractors, visitors and the overall community.
- Assists and coordinates review of contracts, agreements or other activity for the purpose of risk intervention and reduction of loss exposures to hospital assets.
- Develops, maintains and monitors the quality of hospital-wide risk control and risk transfer techniques, policies, procedures, and related activity that decreases facility exposures to financial and/or legal liability.
- Work effectively with outside hospital legal counsel and insurance company legal counsel in the preparation of testimony, evidence or other matters related to actual or potential litigation as needed.
- Provide support, leadership and direction to all departments that reflect sound risk management principles in order to promote the mission, service and financial goals and responsibilities of the organization.
- Provides periodic reports to the Executive Team and Board of Directors.
Compliance Officer
- Promotes compliance with applicable laws and regulations.
- Works to establish organization-wide compliance and provide continuous performance improvement and implementation of needed compliance processes.
- Conduct, oversee and/or coordinate with leadership, departmental internal investigation processes coordinated with legal implications and concerns of the hospital.
- Coordinate corrective action processes.
- Develop and monitors compliance performance indicators.
- Develop and maintain documentation that demonstrates the effectiveness of the compliance process.
- Perform related administrative and supervisory duties in order to facilitate the compliance process and its value to the organization.
- Participates with leadership in developing and reviewing Ranken Jordan’s mission, strategic plans, operational plans, and policies regarding compliance and integrity standards.
- Maintain and distribute current versions of related program manuals, guidelines, advisory bulletins, fraud alerts, and other documents as needed.
- Provide leadership and support relative to compliance related matters concerning hospital contracts, services, policies as well as financial and standards of care, and coordinates these activities with legal counsel.
- Provides periodic reports to the Executive Team and Board of Directors.
Preliminary Legal Review
- Perform contract and agreement review and drafting as needed throughout the hospital.
- Research and interpret changes to applicable laws and regulations.
- Maintain a network for referral of legal issues.
- Work cooperatively with outside council and vendors for contracts as designated by the CFO.
Other
- Serves on the Quality Board, Patient Safety, Compliance, Policy & Procedure, Environment of Care (EOC) and all other committees as assigned or appropriate for position.
- Provides in-services and education in the areas of Risk Management and Compliance Programs.
- Knows the mission and values of Ranken Jordan and in accordance, always maintains appropriate professional behavior.
- Respects and maintains confidentiality of information at all times.
- All other duties as assigned by the CFO.
Qualifications
The Risk Manager/Compliance Officer must have a degree from an accredited law school and eligible to sit for the Bar exam. Must be adept at interpersonal communications, including oral and written communications. Must have excellent analytical skills and be competent in Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.
