Zach's Story

Yes to Families. Yes to Catching Frogs.

By Zach's Mother. January 2009.
Zach’s dad and I were told he would never roll over, never sit up. He’s been able to do all that, and use a walker. Last year, it was time for surgery. Zach’s disease is so rare that nobody knew for sure what he would be able to accomplish afterward.

During Zach’s recovery, I was living at Ranken Jordan and trying to maintain family life. It was emotionally draining, but everyone at Ranken Jordan really understood.

Zach’s sisters came often. Between the playground that’s right there and all the toys, it was really fun. We’d even have our family dinners at Ranken Jordan. Ranken Jordan was fabulous at helping us set goals. Even when the goals seemed unachievable, Ranken Jordan encouraged Zach and my husband and me to think they were realistic and keep working toward them. Today he’s back in school and having fun. Zach is so just a normal boy.

As long as it’s warm, Zach likes to spend all day outside with his friends trying to catch frogs and do whatever little boys like to do outside.
