Brain Injury Rehabilitaion

Nearly one million American children suffer traumatic brain injuries every year. Many of these children have difficulty with cognitive and motor skills, communication, and academic achievement. Ranken Jordan provides child-centered rehabilitation services to address these children's specific needs.

Because children are still growing, developing, and maturing, pediatric brain injury rehabilitation presents a special challenge. To be most effective, treatment activities must be creative and age-appropriate, allowing children to learn through play and everyday activities.

Ranken Jordan's innovative program has been highly successful. The inter-disciplinary treatment permits health care professionals, social workers and educators-each with special talents and skills-to work as a team.

Together, these professionals provide individualized programs, breaking each task into a series of attainable steps to promote maximum development for each child, smoothing the child's re-entry into home, school, and community. Families, too, are an essential part of this rehabilitation process.

Program services include:

  • Professional nursing care

  • Occupational therapy

  • Physical therapy

  • Therapeutic recreation

  • Child life services

  • Speech and language therapy

  • Cognitive retraining

  • Tutoring and educational support

  • Social services

  • Psychological testing

  • Counseling for children and families

  • School and community re-integration

  • Behavior management training

  • Home accessibility assessment

The brain injury rehabilitation program is available for children from 2 weeks through age 18. Although, children must be medically stable to participate, they are provided with acute rehabilitation and therapy while they are in the program.
