Joseph Logan - 2008 Recipient

As a result of his longstanding commitment and dedication to Ranken Jordan, Joseph P. Logan is this year’s recipient of the Mary Ranken Jordan Service to Children Award.

For more than 30 years, Joseph P. Logan served as the president of Ranken Jordan’s Board of Directors. Logan first became acquainted with Ranken Jordan after joining Thompson Coburn LLP in 1948. At that time, the law firm was providing legal services to Mary Ranken Jordan, the pediatric hospital’s founder and namesake.

After being informally appointed secretary and taking notes at several annual board meetings, Logan accepted a position on the organization’s Board of Directors. While his initial involvement with Ranken Jordan may have been involuntary, he soon realized the value the organization brought to children with serious medical needs.

Elected president of the Board of Directors in 1960, Logan and fellow board members began overhauling the organization by adding a full-time pediatrician, full-time social worker and around-the-clock nurses to better serve the needs of patients. In addition, Logan helped oversee a major renovation, which involved the addition of two rooms that allowed the small nursing home to offer physical and occupational therapy. During his extensive tenure, Joe developed the strategic vision that resulted in Ranken Jordan expanding in a major way and attracting a broad array of patients in need of special care.

As a member emeritus of the Board of Directors, Logan continues to support the mission of Ranken Jordan. “I’m delighted to support Ranken Jordan because of its continued dedication to providing excellent care to children in need,” Logan said.“I have a great deal of satisfaction from my time at Ranken Jordan. During my tenure, it changed from a very small organization serving a few patients to a much larger organization serving many patients. I’m proud that I was able to play a part in that transition.”
